Catz-Kato Designs "Kaleidoscope"
"Kaliedoscope" Fall Collezione 2008 featuring Vintage Lucite
What is Vintage Lucite?
The term vintage has become popular in these days. The appeal to designers and collectors is having something that is rare, unusual and one of a kind. Vintage Lucite Beads are a sort of historical attribute that appeals to most everyone. Let's envision people of years past who wore these beads in a flair of the time. How many times have we looked carefully at our treasures and wondered to ourselves… if these beads could only talk!
vin·tage (vin'tij) adj. 1. Old and yummy. 2. Of an era when beadmakers used delicious colors, multiple shapes and materials to make little masterpieces for us to covet in the years ahead.
In the beading industry, its mostly agreed to that vintage beads must be at least 30 years old, give or take 5 years. We view vintage as from the late 19th century to the middle of the 20th century.
Vintage Lucite: What makes these beads different is the quality you'll find in lucite vs. other plastics. It is a heavier material and they fit nicely with stones and glass. Most of these beads are also "lathe-turned" carved from a long tube of lucite, vs. press-molded and therefore you won't see seams. I hope you like the old lucite beads as much as I like using them in my new designs.
